About the program

Catholic Care Diocese of Broken Bay is a vibrant, faith-based agency providing innovative social care services to 14,000+ children, young people, individuals and families in the Northern Metropolitan Sydney and on the Central Coast.

Known previously as Out of Home Care, CatholicCare's Permanency Support Program (PSP) implements Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) services on the Central Coast and in Sydney's northern suburbs to support children and young people in our care who have experienced trauma and neglect.

Intensive Therapeutic Care provides an alternative to the long-term residential model of care, focusing on recovery from trauma, the achievement of positive life outcomes and a broad range of placement options for children and young people.

As a Therapeutic Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with our ITC team to provide consistent care for children and young people in our PSP program who have experienced abuse, trauma or neglect. You will use your skills and experiences to:

  • Provide robust matching and risk mitigation assessment and recommendations for children and young people entering into temporary placement;
  • Develop transition plans in collaboration with stakeholders, including children or young people, to exit into permanent pathways;
  • Administer psychometric assessments, analyse data and inform, coach and guide behavioural advice based on information available;
  • Lead the Therapeutic Care Team towards best practice in therapeutic care;
  • Identify and review strategies to maintain a current and relevant approach to all aspects of child related care;
  • Lead the reporting of outcome measures for children and young people;
  • Assist in transitioning the young people out of care as required;
  • As well as other duties as per attached Position Description.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Mental Health or Nursing;
  • Current registration, or willingness and capability to obtain registration, with the professional body relevant to qualification;
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a Therapeutic Care setting or working in a clinical environment with children and young people in Out of Home Care;
  • A thorough understanding of the theories relating to the impact of trauma, abuse and neglect on a child or young person’s development and wellbeing;
  • Current Driver’s Licence and access to a comprehensively insured vehicle;
  • Current Working with Children Check;
  • And other requirements as per the attached Position Description.
